Darkroom - In the collection of commonplace
Text etched onto mirror 7 panels 10" x 8" each
Strobe light
Techno track 8.12 minutes duration
Made in collaboration with Philip Stewart
and Peter O'Neill
This installed work was exhibited in a room below the white gallery space where the ' Berghain' portraits were hung.
The darkroom is lit by a single strobe light. An original techno track (8.12 minutes looped, produced in collaboration with two Dublin based composers) is played on repeat within. There are several pieces of mirror (7 panels 10X8) etched with the text; YOU NEVER HAVE THE FEELING THAT ANYONE IS WATCHING. A disorientation occurs in this space, the strobe, realising your own reflection in the mirrors and the darkness create a sensation not unlike that of being lost in an unfamiliar club. This intense, immersive encounter connects people to the experience of the men in the photographs and the images are viewed a second time from an altered perspective.
