'I had forebodings of all the separations, the refusals, the desertions to come, and of the long succession of my various deaths.'
Simone De Beauvoir, Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter, 1958
I have become increasingly curious about states and sites of change and transformation particularly in relation to gender and sexuality. Judith Butler describes homosexuality as a state of un-liveable passion and un-grievable loss (Butler, 1990). This un-liveable and un-grievable space has been a key point of curiosity throughout my process.
The title of the final body of work is borrowed from Simone De Beauvoir, whose concern for the internal life of the individual in relation to their social, cultural and political environment has been a touchstone.
